Google Merchant Center Suspension (2026): Recovery & Reinstatement Guide

Rate this post

Updated September 2026: A Google Merchant Center suspension is not a single problem with a single fix. The recovery process depends on the policy named in Merchant Center, the quality of your product data, the consistency of your website, and whether Google can verify that customers are being shown accurate business, pricing, shipping, returns and checkout information.

This guide is the broad recovery framework. If your account specifically shows Misrepresentation, use my dedicated Merchant Center Misrepresentation guide.

What to Do First After a Merchant Center Suspension

  1. Read the exact issue in Merchant Center. Do not assume every suspension is Misrepresentation.
  2. Pause unnecessary changes. Repeated edits and repeated review requests before the root cause is fixed make diagnosis harder.
  3. Audit the website and Merchant Center together. Google can compare product data, checkout, business information and third-party signals.
  4. Fix the underlying issue before requesting a review. An appeal is not a substitute for remediation.

2026 Merchant Center Suspension Checklist

1. Business identity and trust

2. Product data accuracy

3. Shipping, returns and refunds

Your policies need to be real and operational, not merely present as template pages. Customers should be able to understand delivery timing, return eligibility, refund handling and any exclusions before committing to a purchase.

4. Checkout and payment flow

5. Product and business eligibility

Some products and business models are restricted or require additional compliance. A technically correct feed does not override product-policy restrictions.

Do Not Create a Replacement Merchant Center Account to Evade Enforcement

If the current business is under review or suspension, creating another account simply to continue advertising can create more account-linkage and policy problems. Fix the original compliance issue first.

How to Request a Review

Once the website, feed and business information are consistent, use the review or appeal path shown inside Merchant Center. Your explanation should be specific: what was wrong, what you changed, and how the customer experience is now compliant. Avoid emotional or generic appeals such as “we did nothing wrong.”

Why Reinstatement Requests Fail

After Reinstatement

Keep product data synchronized, monitor Diagnostics, review disapprovals promptly and re-check shipping, returns and checkout whenever the store platform or fulfillment process changes. Merchant Center compliance is ongoing rather than a one-time approval task.

Final Recovery Framework

The safest sequence is identify the exact policy → audit website and data together → fix customer-facing inconsistencies → verify checkout and policies → request review once the root cause is genuinely resolved.
